Brow lamination: what it is and how long it lasts

What is brow lamination?

Brow lamination is a semi-permanent treatment that reorders and sets the eyebrow hairs in the desired direction, creating an effect of more volume, definition and uniformity without the need for micropigmentation or make-up. The result is popularly known as "soap brows" or "fluffy brows": that brushed-up, dense, natural look that has been trending for several years.

Unlike microblading (which tattoos hairs into the skin) or tint (which only colours), lamination works on the existing hair, temporarily changing its direction of growth.

What does the process involve?

The treatment is divided into three main steps:

  1. Restructuring lotion: a lotion is applied that opens the hair cuticle and makes it malleable. It is left to work for 8 to 12 minutes.
  2. Setting: the hair is brushed in the desired direction and a setting solution is applied that holds it in that position by closing the cuticle again.
  3. Nourishment: a serum or nourishing oil is applied to rehydrate the hair and add shine. At this step it can also be combined with tint to intensify colour.

The full session lasts between 45 and 60 minutes. It doesn't hurt and requires no recovery afterwards.

How long does brow lamination last?

Lamination lasts between 6 and 8 weeks, depending on how fast your hair grows and aftercare. As it is a treatment on natural hair, it gradually disappears as the hair completes its growth cycle.

Can it be combined with design and tint?

Yes, and it is the most complete option. At Prettify we offer the lamination + threading + tint pack in a single session. Threading defines the shape of the brow by removing hairs outside the arch, and the tint intensifies colour for a more dramatic, longer-lasting result. It is the most requested treatment at our Brow Bar.

Who is lamination ideal for?

  • People with full brows but with hairs growing in different directions that are hard to style.
  • Those who want the "natural" but defined effect without relying on daily make-up.
  • Clients with asymmetrical brows, as lamination helps visually unify both sides.
  • Those who don't want a permanent result and prefer the treatment to fade gradually over time.

When NOT to have lamination?

  • If you have active irritation, dermatitis or wounds in the brow area.
  • If you've had wax or threading in the last 24 hours (the skin may be sensitive).
  • If your brow hairs are very fine or sparse: in that case microblading or hair-by-hair techniques may be a more suitable alternative.

Aftercare following lamination

During the first 24 hours it is important to:

  • Not wet your brows (neither in the shower nor in the pool).
  • Not apply oily products or thick creams to the area.
  • Not rub or scrub your brows with a towel.

From the second day you can moisturise them daily with castor oil or a specific brow serum, which will prolong the result.

Lamination vs microblading: which to choose?

They are very different treatments. Microblading is a semi-permanent micropigmentation technique that draws hairs on the skin: ideal if you have few brows or want to fill empty areas. Lamination works on the hair that already exists: ideal if you have enough hair but it is unruly. If in doubt, our specialists will advise you with no obligation at any Prettify salon.
